In February, KickHouse hosted the 8-week Captain KickHouse Challenge. This Challenge pushed members to embrace the uncomfortable and unleash their inner resilience. With great success across the country, six winners were chosen overall based on their physical and mental transformations. KickHouse had the chance to ask these winners a series of questions about their experience with the KickHouse Challenge. Meet Caleb Young from KickHouse Tracy, our men’s second place national challenge winner.

Meet Caleb and read about his takeaways from the KickHouse Challenge:

1.  What inspired you to join KickHouse and what made you join the Challenge?

“My wife and I were looking for a way to lose some weight together that we had put on together. We had tried different diets before and we try to do regular workouts at home, but I think we needed something different. My wife found KickHouse and it sounded like a blast. It sounded like a good way to have fun while exercising. I joined the Challenge because I enjoy competition, even if it is just with myself.  Competition can definitely push me.”

2.  What does “Captain KickHouse” mean to you?

“The Captain Kickhouse Challenge is a super fun and effective way to meet exercise goals.”

3.  How was your experience during the 8-week Challenge? Highs and lows?

“Overall the experience was good. There were definite times that I wanted to just eat whatever I want… okay Ill be honest and say this was several times a week. But using the macros that the coaches gave me made it easier to track and plan out my meals for the day so I knew I was staying within my limits. The highs were definitely being able to see my body shape change throughout the Challenege and noticing such a big difference as we got further and further into the challenge. The kickboxing classes were fun and I was always happy I went once I was there. It was a good way to let out some stress in a healthy way.”

4.  How do you feel kickboxing has impacted your health?

“Kickboxing has impacted my health in a good way. It has given me the endurance and stamina that I haven’t had a in a long time. It provided different workouts and movements that I have never done before.”

5.  What are your current goals?

“My current goal is to try and maintain my weight by staying on top of my workouts and watching what I eat. I don’t log my meals anymore, but just from the 8 -Week Challenge I was able to learn enough that I can know in my head if I am doing well or not on my eating habits. “

6.  What would you say to anyone who was thinking about joining KickHouse and/or the Challenge?

“I would highly recommend both KickHouse and the Challenge. Kickboxing is a super fun exercise and you often forget that you are exercising when you are doing it. The Challenge was great because it adds some healthy competition to the mix and can give people the extra push they might need or want to reach their goals.”
