Change your Mindset. Change your Life.
A look into goals, mindset, and what we are capable of.
Every year, about 30% of Americans make new year’s resolutions according to Discover Healthy Habits. A whopping 50% percent of those resolutions center around health and fitness. While we begin the year with high hopes, only 46% of people follow through with their resolutions after the first six months. Yet only 9% of people feel successful in keeping their resolutions by the end of the year. What are we doing wrong?
Sometimes when we set goals, we put them down on paper but we don’t really believe the goal is achievable. “I want to lose 20 pounds” is written down but it contrasts with the narrative in our head that “every time I’ve tried to lose weight, I’ve failed” or “I am too old to do this” or “I don’t like working out”.
Your mindset is at the root of everything you achieve in life. Consciously choose the thoughts that repeat in your mind and you will take control of your story… and your results.
Vivian Hochschild, a KickHouse member from Los Alamitos, CA shares her perspective:
“I was having a conversation with a family member who stated that if you are over fifty, you are done. Really? I started kickboxing at 51 and at first it was difficult. I could barely hit or kick the bag. Nearly 2 years later, I am stronger than I have ever been and have never felt happier.
Who says that being over fifty makes you any less relevant? I may be fifty-three, but I feel better than I ever have in my whole life. I have my team, my friends at the Kickhouse. My friends have my back as I have theirs.
We are strong, bold and we break barriers every day. We prove it every time we work out that we are taking it to the next level, so what makes you think that we are not relevant? Age is just a number and a state of mind. My physical and mental health is 20 years old.
So, what about you?
Is what we are capable of, based on what other people say about us or what we say about ourselves? I will leave you with this thought. The most important conversation is the one that we have with ourselves.”

As you think about your own goals for the new year, what stories are you telling yourself about your own potential? Are you setting limitations for yourself based on experiences you’ve had in the past or a fear that’s looping in your mind?
What if your potential is even greater than you’ve ever imagined? What might that look like? What might that feel like?
Whatever you’re pursuing, the coaches at KickHouse are here to help. Share your goal with your coach and with your fellow members. Working together, we will all move one step closer to our true potential.
